BMW M2 Going All-Wheel Drive in 2027 - Plus New EV Models Incoming

Post by sarah.martin »

Hey everyone! Just saw some exciting news about BMW's upcoming lineup for 2027. Apparently, the M2 is getting an all-wheel drive option, which is a pretty significant shift from the current rear-wheel drive setup. This makes sense from a performance and traction standpoint, especially in challenging weather conditions.

Beyond the M2, BMW is planning to introduce several new electric vehicles as part of their broader EV expansion strategy. The company seems committed to electrification while still maintaining their performance-oriented lineup. The all-wheel drive M2 could potentially offer better stability and grip for enthusiasts who want practical daily driving capability without sacrificing the M brand's sporting character.

I'm curious about how this will affect the M2's handling characteristics. The current RWD setup is loved by purists, but AWD could make it more accessible to a broader audience. The added weight and complexity of AWD systems might impact performance slightly, but modern systems are pretty sophisticated these days.

The EV announcements are also interesting - it shows BMW isn't just going all-in on one technology path. They're balancing traditional performance vehicles with electric alternatives, which seems like a smart strategy for the next few years.

Thoughts on the AWD M2? Are you excited about the new EV options too? How do you think this impacts BMW's position in the performance car market?

This is huge news! The AWD system on the M2 will definitely make it more competitive against the Audi RS3. I'm really interested to see what the power figures will be and how they tune the traction control for a sportier feel.

Honestly, I'm disappointed about this move. The whole appeal of the M2 is that it's a pure RWD driver's car. Adding AWD just dilutes the experience and makes it feel like every other sports car. BMW is losing its identity here.

Thanks for all the early responses! I think the AWD option is actually smart. Not everyone wants or needs pure RWD, and offering both options could work well. The M2 stays as RWD for traditionalists, and those who want practicality get the AWD variant. Best of both worlds in my opinion.

The EV expansion is what really gets me excited. We need more high-performance electric vehicles in the market. I'm definitely keeping an eye on what BMW launches on the EV side of things.

Anyone thinking about the maintenance costs on these new models? AWD systems are generally more expensive to maintain than RWD. Parts, repairs, tire costs - everything goes up. Just something to consider before jumping on the new M2.

Has anyone heard specs on the EV models yet? I'm really hoping BMW brings something competitive to the luxury EV segment. They need to step up against Tesla and the new Chinese manufacturers.

The specifications on these new EVs better be impressive. If BMW is launching them alongside performance cars, they need to deliver real performance metrics, not just marketing speak.

I disagree with the direction here. Every manufacturer is chasing AWD and EV trends without thinking about what makes cars special. BMW should stick to what they do best - RWD performance vehicles with character.

The 2027 timeline is interesting. That gives us a few years to see how the current generation M2 holds up. I'm curious if there will be any price increases with the AWD system.
