Not everyone needs a frunk though. If you're buying a Mach-E, you probably already have other storage options. It's a luxury, not a necessity. The pricing is high but it's optional.

The auto industry is definitely following the software industry's playbook of constant monetization. I'm seriously reconsidering my loyalty to Ford at this point.

The frunk is a new feature for the Mach-E generation. It's not like they removed a standard feature and charged for it. You're comparing it to other brands, but different products have different pricing. This is normal market differentiation.

The real question is whether this is a profitable strategy long-term. If customers start choosing competitors because of stuff like this, Ford loses market share. It's penny wise, pound foolish.
