Hey everyone, I found this incredible 2012 Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG on Bring a Trailer and wanted to get some feedback from the community. This is a stunning example with just 4,900 miles on the odometer, which is basically brand new for a vehicle this age. The SLS AMG is one of Mercedes' most iconic performance cars from that generation, and this particular specimen appears to be in immaculate condition.
The gullwing doors are absolutely iconic and never get old - they make such a statement whenever you park it somewhere. The 6.2L V8 engine produces 563 horsepower and 479 lb-ft of torque, paired with a 7-speed AMG SPEEDSHIFT MCT transmission. Performance-wise, it's capable of 0-60 in 3.8 seconds and a top speed of 197 mph, which is seriously impressive.
What really strikes me about this car is how pristine it is. With under 5,000 miles, it's essentially a collector's item that's barely been driven. The asking price seems reasonable for a low-mileage SLS AMG in this condition. I'm trying to decide if this should be in my garage, but I'd love to hear what you all think about this particular listing.
Is anyone here familiar with the long-term ownership experience of these cars? How do they hold up? I'm particularly interested in hearing about reliability, maintenance costs, and whether the gullwing doors present any issues down the road. Any insights would be greatly appreciated!

The gullwing doors are cool but honestly, they seem like they could become a hassle in tight parking situations. Have you thought about the practicality aspect? Still a gorgeous machine though.

That's a beautiful car, James. The SLS AMG is an absolute legend. With those miles, it's practically a time capsule. If you're serious about it, I'd definitely go for it - this generation of SLS is becoming increasingly collectible.

4,900 miles is insane for a car this powerful. That V8 is pure magic - the way it delivers power is unmatched in that era. You should absolutely grab this if the price is right.

Thanks for all the responses so far. @noah78, that's actually one of my main concerns. The maintenance costs on these things must be astronomical. Does anyone have actual experience with what the annual service runs?

I disagree with people calling this a practical car. It's a two-seater sports car with ridiculous insurance costs and fuel consumption to match. It's beautiful but not for everyday driving.

I have to be honest, I'm not convinced about the long-term reliability of these AMG models. They're beautiful but parts are expensive and dealer service isn't cheap. Just something to consider.

This is the kind of car you buy and keep garaged. The 2012 SLS AMG is a modern classic. With 4,900 miles, the previous owner clearly treated it like a treasure. That's the sweet spot for a collector car.

One thing people often overlook with the SLS is that maintenance cost on these can easily exceed $10,000 annually if anything major needs attention. Full AMG service with fluid changes, brake pads, and inspections adds up quick. Budget accordingly.

The asking price on Bring a Trailer for these low-mileage examples seems to have stabilized around $100-120k. For a 2012 with under 5k miles, that's actually reasonable if the history checks out.
