The driver variable really changes things. A skilled manual driver vs an average automatic driver might show a big difference. But comparing equally skilled drivers, I still think automatics have the edge in most modern scenarios.

Re: 5 Manual Transmission Cars That Crush Their Automatic Versions in Acceleration
This is a great discussion point. I think the key is understanding what type of automatic we're comparing against. Older torque converters are definitely slower, but newer automatics are genuinely fast. The manual cars winning probably have other performance advantages.

Manual transmissions appeal to enthusiasts and people who want a more engaging driving experience. That's valid. But let's not overstate the acceleration advantages. The real benefit is the driving connection and usually lower cost.

I just love the feel of a manual transmission car though. Even if it's slightly slower in acceleration, the experience of shifting gears and being in control makes it worth it for me. Performance isn't everything.

Yeah, I'm sticking with my position. Automatic transmissions, particularly DCT systems, are faster and more efficient. Any manual transmission car being quicker is probably due to different engine tuning or displacement, not the transmission type itself.

Re: 5 Manual Transmission Cars That Crush Their Automatic Versions in Acceleration
The real question is whether this trend will continue. With electric vehicles becoming more common, both manual and automatic transmissions might become obsolete. This discussion might be about the past soon.

Re: 5 Manual Transmission Cars That Crush Their Automatic Versions in Acceleration
Has anyone actually tested this with real acceleration data? Like 0-60 times and quarter-mile runs? I'd love to see the actual numbers instead of just claims about which is faster. Professional testing would settle this debate.
