The domestic content requirement is a hidden issue nobody talks about. A lot of otherwise qualifying vehicles lost eligibility because batteries weren't made domestically. The credit became political rather than effective.

The credit definitely accelerated the timeline. Automakers ramped up EV production partly because they knew customers had more purchasing power with the incentive. Whether that's good or bad depends on your perspective on EVs.

The credit mattered but it's temporary. What happens when it phases out or gets repealed? We need sustainable EV adoption based on genuine product improvement and infrastructure, not subsidies.

I have to respectfully disagree with James. The credit absolutely helped convert buyers who were on the fence. It made the total cost of ownership calculation work for middle-class families. Not everyone needs to be an EV enthusiast to benefit from the incentive.

I think we'll look back and see the credit as one factor among many. Gas prices, improving tech, more model choices—these all converged to make 2023-2024 the EV inflection point, not just the tax credit.

The credit exposed automakers' pricing too. When you remove that $7,500, suddenly EVs look a lot less competitive on price. It masked the real cost problem rather than solving it.

Let's be real—most people buying EVs right now were already predisposed to buy one. The credit's not converting skeptics, it's just making early adopters feel smarter about their purchase. That's not transformational.

The credit mattered for used EV prices too. Knowing the new car credit would eventually go away made used EVs more attractive. It's been a cascading effect throughout the market.

Regional differences are huge. In California, charging networks are robust and the credit mattered less. In rural areas, it might have been a deal-maker but charging infrastructure doesn't exist. Context matters.
