Military Lasers Target Wrong Aircraft Again in El Paso - This is Getting Ridiculous

Post by daniel65 »

So this is the second time in recent memory that military lasers have been used against the wrong target in El Paso airspace. I just read about another incident where military personnel directed high-powered lasers at aircraft that weren't the intended targets. This is becoming a serious safety concern.

For those unfamiliar with the context, military laser systems are designed for specific defensive purposes, but there have been multiple documented cases where these systems have malfunctioned or been misused, resulting in them targeting civilian or wrong military aircraft in the El Paso area.

Let me be clear: I support our military and understand they have legitimate security needs. However, when you're dealing with equipment powerful enough to potentially damage aircraft systems or blind pilots, accuracy and proper protocols are absolutely critical. The fact that this has happened more than once suggests there might be systemic issues with training, communication, or equipment calibration.

What's particularly concerning is that El Paso is a major commercial aviation hub with plenty of civilian air traffic. Imagine if one of these laser incidents had occurred with a civilian airliner full of passengers. The consequences could have been catastrophic.

I want to see transparency about what happened, how it happened, and what measures are being implemented to ensure this doesn't happen a third time. The military needs to conduct a thorough review of their laser targeting procedures and safety protocols in the El Paso region.

Has anyone else been following this story? What are your thoughts on the safety implications and the need for better oversight?

This is absolutely unacceptable. Military personnel need to be held accountable when they repeatedly target the wrong aircraft. Friendly fire incidents are one thing, but this seems like gross negligence with potentially lethal technology.

I think we need more information before jumping to conclusions. What were the circumstances? Were there communication failures? Equipment malfunctions? We should understand the root cause before making judgments.

This reminds me of the old Star Wars prequel joke - 'Attack of the Clones' but with lasers targeting the wrong clones. Except this isn't funny because real aircraft and people are at risk.

The maintenance cost alone for these laser systems must be astronomical. If they're having accuracy problems this frequently, we need to know if it's a maintenance issue or a design flaw. Either way, taxpayers deserve answers.

El Paso airspace is getting way too crowded anyway. We need better air traffic control coordination with military operations in that region. Maybe that's the real issue here.

I disagree with the implication that this is a massive safety issue. Military incidents like this are investigated thoroughly. One or two mistakes don't mean the whole system is broken. Context matters here.

The military-industrial complex strikes again. This is what happens when you don't have proper civilian oversight of military operations in populated areas. El Paso residents should be demanding answers.

Has anyone looked into whether El Paso's geographic location plays a role? There are a lot of factors unique to that area that might contribute to targeting issues. Terrain, weather, airspace complexity?

I completely disagree that this represents systemic failure. Military laser incidents are rare. The fact that safeguards exist and worked suggests the system is functioning as designed, catching errors before they become disasters.
