Looking at this from a competitive standpoint - Mercedes and Audi already have their own AWD performance coupes at this price point. BMW had the RWD angle as their differentiator. This move makes them just like everyone else.

Andrew85 makes a good point about verification. That said, if it's on the official BMW website portal, even if buried, it's pretty credible. They typically don't let fake specs get that far into their system.

The all-wheel-drive M2 xDrive will probably start around $65-70k given the added complexity. Still reasonable for what you're getting. Performance numbers should justify the premium over the current generation.

Just did some math - xDrive differential service is about $1200 every 60k miles in my experience. Transmission fluid, coupling maintenance, all the extra complexity. Budget accordingly if you're considering one of these.

Great discussion everyone. I think the reality is that AWD M2 xDrive represents BMW's future strategy, whether we like it or not. The market data probably shows most buyers prefer it. Doesn't mean we can't miss the old RWD character though.

The maintenance costs on xDrive systems are going to kill you long term. I looked into it after buying my X3 M and the repair bills are substantially higher than comparable RWD systems. Something to consider before jumping on this.
