Kansas Roundabout Signal Law: Drivers Must Signal When Exiting Circles

Post by andrew.smith »

Hey everyone, I just read about a new regulation Kansas is implementing that requires all drivers to use turn signals when exiting roundabouts. This is actually a significant safety measure that many states haven't formally mandated yet. The law aims to reduce confusion and accidents at roundabout intersections by making driver intentions clearer to other motorists and pedestrians.

For those unfamiliar with proper roundabout etiquette, many drivers currently navigate these intersections without signaling their exits, which creates dangerous situations. When you're approaching a roundabout, you should signal before entering and continue signaling as you prepare to exit. This simple action prevents rear-end collisions and helps pedestrians anticipate vehicle movements.

Kansas lawmakers recognized that roundabouts have become more common across the state, but driver education hasn't kept pace with their proliferation. Without clear signaling requirements, accidents have increased at these intersections. The new law makes it legally mandatory to signal exits, bringing Kansas in line with best practices recommended by traffic safety organizations.

I think this is a smart move. Roundabouts are more efficient than traditional four-way intersections when everyone follows proper protocol. The key is communication through signals. I'm curious what other drivers think about this regulation. Some might argue it's obvious that you should signal, but apparently enough people weren't doing it to warrant a formal law.

What's your experience with roundabouts? Do you already signal when exiting, or is this law news to you?

Great questions, Kevin. Based on the article, it should be implemented soon, but I'd recommend checking Kansas DMV website for exact details on effective date and fine amounts. Stay safe out there!

Does anyone know when this law takes effect? I want to make sure I'm compliant. Also, what are the penalties for not signaling?

Finally! I've almost been hit multiple times because drivers don't signal at roundabouts. This is a safety issue that needed addressing. Good on Kansas for taking action.

This is ridiculous. Another unnecessary law micromanaging drivers. If you can't navigate a roundabout without a law telling you to signal, that's a driver education problem, not a legal one.

I support this. Clear signaling reduces confusion and makes roundabouts safer for everyone including cyclists and pedestrians. It's a minor adjustment that saves lives.

I actually think signaling at roundabouts should be taught in driver's education. It's basic courtesy and safety. This law just makes it enforceable.

Why does everything need to be a law? Can't people just use common sense? This is government overreach at its finest.

My concern is maintenance costs for roundabout signage and markings will increase significantly if they add more regulatory infrastructure. Taxpayers will feel this in road maintenance budgets.

Disagree with daniel79. Common sense clearly isn't common if accidents are happening. Laws exist because people don't follow basic safety practices voluntarily.
