Ford Recalls 4.3 Million Vehicles Over Trailer Controller Issue - Should We Be Concerned?

Post by rizky84 »

Hey everyone, just saw this news and wanted to start a discussion. Ford is recalling 4.3 million vehicles due to a trailer controller issue. According to reports, the problem affects various Ford models and involves the trailer brake controller potentially malfunctioning. This is a pretty significant recall in terms of the number of vehicles affected.

The trailer controller issue apparently could impact the brake control system when towing, which is definitely a safety concern. I'm trying to figure out if my vehicle is included in this recall and what the actual risks are beyond the official statements.

Has anyone here been affected by this recall? Are you planning to get it serviced immediately or waiting for more information? I'm particularly interested in hearing from those who regularly tow trailers with their Ford vehicles, as this seems like it would be most critical for your usage.

From what I understand, Ford will be issuing a fix, but I haven't seen details yet on whether it's a software update, hardware replacement, or something else. The timeline for recalls like this can vary significantly, so I'm curious what people's experiences have been with previous Ford recalls.

Also interested in hearing if anyone has concerns about this recall process itself or if they think the number of vehicles affected suggests a more widespread manufacturing issue. Looking forward to hearing your thoughts and experiences with this situation.

4.3 million is absolutely massive. This has to be one of Ford's biggest recalls in recent years. I wonder how long it'll take dealers to work through all these vehicles.

I just checked and my 2019 F-150 is included in this recall. Pretty worried about the trailer controller issue since I tow a boat every weekend. Has anyone contacted their dealer yet about scheduling the repair?

Anyone know if this trailer controller recall affects the newer model years or just older ones? I have a 2020 model and want to confirm if I'm included.

I'm with james20 on this one. I think people are overreacting. The trailer controller function is pretty redundant anyway if you have a good towing setup. Not a critical safety issue in my opinion.

The trailer brake controller failure could be really dangerous when you're hauling heavy loads. Safety recalls like this should always be taken seriously, not dismissed. I'm scheduling my appointment as soon as possible.

Thanks for the responses so far. I'm actually concerned about the maintenance cost and downtime involved in this recall. My local dealer quoted me potentially $500+ if there's any parts replacement needed beyond labor. Has anyone gotten pricing from their dealers yet? I'm wondering if Ford will cover everything completely or if there will be out-of-pocket expenses.

I don't think this is as big a deal as everyone's making it out to be. Trailer controller issues are pretty rare in actual use, and most people probably won't even notice anything wrong. Ford is just being cautious here.

Just got an email from Ford about this. They're saying it's a software update for most vehicles, which is good news. No hardware replacement needed according to the notification I received.

Just booked my appointment for next month. My dealer said they're completely backed up with recall appointments. Might take a while to get everyone in.
