I've been looking at used cars lately and stumbled upon some Renault Megane Coupes listed for surprisingly reasonable prices. The retro styling really caught my eye – there's something about that design that feels timeless compared to a lot of modern cars that all look the same.

For anyone unfamiliar, the Megane Coupe has that classic French flair mixed with practical everyday usability. You get decent performance, reasonable fuel economy, and frankly, it stands out from the usual suspects you see on the road. The prices I'm seeing suggest people have largely forgotten about these cars, which could be brilliant for buyers who appreciate character.

I'm seriously considering one as a second car, but I wanted to get some opinions from this community before I commit. Has anyone owned a Megane Coupe? What was your experience like? Are there any common issues I should watch out for? The one I'm looking at is a 2005 model with around 95,000 miles.

Those Meganes are actually pretty solid vehicles. The 2.0 petrol engine is particularly robust if that's what you're looking at. Just ensure all the paperwork is in order and the MOT history is clean.

Beautiful cars inside and out. The retro design has aged really well. Just factor in potential paint work and maybe some interior refurbishment. The seats can wear quickly if not cared for.

Wrong choice. You'll regret it after a year when things start failing. Get a Honda Civic instead – you'll thank me later. These Renaults just aren't worth the hassle.

The 1.6 is peppy enough for everyday driving but doesn't have the longevity of the larger engine. Make sure you check the transmission carefully – that's where problems sometimes show up on these.
