Hey everyone, I just came across some exciting news about Toyota's upcoming WRC rally prototype. According to reports, Toyota has been developing a coupe-bodied rally prototype that could potentially be previewing a new generation Celica. This is huge if it's true!

For those who don't know, the Celica was an iconic sports car that Toyota discontinued back in 2006. It had a loyal fanbase and was known for its performance, sleek design, and reliability. The fact that Toyota might be bringing it back as a modern rally-inspired vehicle is incredibly exciting.

From what I've gathered, this prototype features a coupe body style that pays homage to the classic Celica while incorporating modern WRC rally technology and performance capabilities. The design appears to combine aggressive aerodynamics with that signature Toyota reliability we all know and love.

What makes this particularly interesting is that Toyota has been increasing their focus on performance vehicles lately with the GR brand. A new Celica would fit perfectly into their lineup, sitting between the GR86 and the Supra. It could offer a unique middle ground for enthusiasts who want something sporty but more accessible.

I'm really hoping this turns out to be real and not just a one-off prototype. A modern Celica with rally-inspired heritage could be exactly what the sports car market needs. Has anyone else seen this news? What are your thoughts on the possibility of a new Celica? Would you be interested in buying one if Toyota actually releases it?

Let me know what you all think about this potential revival!

This would be absolutely incredible! The Celica was such an awesome car back in the day. If Toyota brings it back with modern performance and tech, I'd definitely consider getting one. The WRC rally heritage angle is really cool too.

Why would Toyota bother with a Celica when they already have the Supra? The market doesn't really need another Toyota sports car right now. This seems like a waste of resources to me.

I'm skeptical about this honestly. Toyota hasn't shown much interest in bringing back the Celica for years. This could just be a one-off prototype for fun. I'll believe it when I see it in production form.

I think Toyota is smart to use their WRC program to develop a consumer car. The technology transfer from motorsports has always been a great way to create special vehicles. This could be the next big thing!

Does anyone know what kind of engine this would potentially have? I'm hoping for something with decent horsepower, maybe around 300hp? That would make it competitive in the sports car segment.

The maintenance cost on a new Toyota sports car with WRC technology could get pretty expensive. Those rally components aren't cheap to service. Just something to keep in mind before getting excited about owning one.

Thanks for all the responses so far! To address some concerns - I don't think this would cannibalize Supra sales since they'd be positioned differently. The Celica could be more affordable and rally-focused, while the Supra stays as the flagship. And sofia_hall, I respectfully disagree that it's a waste - there's definitely demand for a sports car in that mid-range price point.

The styling on that prototype is gorgeous. It has that perfect balance of retro-inspired design elements with modern aggression. Really hope this becomes a production car because it looks stunning.

The design language in that prototype looks fantastic! If this is really previewing a new Celica, Toyota nailed the styling. It has that modern aggressive look while still being recognizable as a Celica successor.
