That preserved example sounds like it could be a valuable investment. Originality seems to matter more and more these days in the collector market.

The custom paint on one of them is actually kind of genius though. Bold choice, but it definitely stands out from everything else at auctions.

Has anyone actually tried bidding on any of these? I'm curious what the actual competition is like for the weird stuff versus the serious collectibles.

I still think some of these modifications destroy the character of the original design. Not all change is good change, you know?

Luna makes a fair point about design integrity. That's actually what separates the really clever builds from the ones that just feel like they're trying too hard.

Maintenance costs aside, I wonder about parts availability for the heavily modified ones. That's got to be a real issue down the line.
