Not everyone needs a frunk though. If you're buying a Mach-E, you probably already have other storage options. It's a luxury, not a necessity. The pricing is high but it's optional.

Thanks everyone for the responses. I think the key issue here is that this used to be a standard feature you'd expect, and now we're being asked to pay premium pricing for basic functionality. The auto industry is definitely following the software industry's playbook of constant monetization. I'm seriously reconsidering my loyalty to Ford at this point.

Market differentiation is one thing, but $495 is market gouging. When competitors offer the same thing standard, it's not differentiation - it's just charging more for less.

I know someone at a Ford dealership, and apparently very few people are opting for this. Most customers think it's ridiculous. Ford might have to lower the price or make it standard eventually.

Has anyone actually bought the frunk option? I'm curious how many customers are actually paying for this. If sales numbers are low, it proves the price point is wrong.

The frunk is a new feature for the Mach-E generation. It's not like they removed a standard feature and charged for it. You're comparing it to other brands, but different products have different pricing. This is normal market differentiation.

The real question is whether this is a profitable strategy long-term. If customers start choosing competitors because of stuff like this, Ford loses market share. It's penny wise, pound foolish.
