Check Out These Classic Photos of the 1984 Bertone X1/9
Just found an amazing archive gallery from Car and Driver featuring the 1984 Bertone Fiat X1/9. This is such an iconic car from the 80s and I wanted to share these photos with everyone here. The Bertone X1/9 represents a unique chapter in automotive design, combining Italian engineering with stunning Bertone styling. The 1984 model year showcases some beautiful details that really highlight why this mid-engine roadster became such a cult classic. Looking at these vintage photos, you can really appreciate the craftsmanship and design philosophy of that era. The proportions are perfect for a compact two-seater, and the targa-style removable roof panel was revolutionary for its time. The interior shots show the minimalist approach that Fiat took, which was actually pretty practical for a lightweight sports car. I'm curious to hear what everyone thinks about this particular generation. The 1984 model sits right in that sweet spot where the X1/9 had been refined from its original introduction but before it started showing its age. The body lines are crisp and clean, and the stance is incredibly aggressive for a car of this size. If you've got any experience with these cars or just appreciate classic Italian design, I'd love to hear your thoughts on the photos. There's something special about seeing these detailed shots from the archives that really captures the essence of 1980s sports car design.

Wow, those photos are incredible! The 1984 Bertone X1/9 is such a gorgeous car. I love how compact and nimble it looks. The design has aged really well compared to some other cars from that decade.

This is one of my favorite Italian cars ever made. The mid-engine layout really shows in these photos. The proportions are just perfect. Have you had a chance to see one of these in person?

I disagree that this design has held up well. Looking at those photos, I can see how dated the styling actually is. The bumpers and trim pieces look very 80s to me. Don't get me wrong, I appreciate the car, but let's be honest about its era.

The interior shots really interest me. You can see how minimal everything is. That was typical for Fiat at the time, but it makes you wonder about comfort on longer drives.

Those headlights are fantastic. The design language around the front end is so clean. I wish more modern cars had this kind of simplicity.

Thanks for the feedback everyone! I should mention that the photos really capture the raw, unfiltered design. There's no power steering or fancy electronics in these cars. It's pure driving experience, which is why enthusiasts still love them today.

Beautiful archive photos! The Bertone name really meant something back then. This car proves that design doesn't always need to be complicated to be striking.

I'm really impressed by how the camera work captures the details. You can see the quality of the paint and the panel gaps. This makes me want to find one of these cars to examine in person.

The maintenance costs on these cars can get pretty steep if you need engine work or restore the body. Anyone here familiar with what it costs to properly maintain a 1984 X1/9?
