Has anyone looked into whether El Paso's geographic location plays a role? There are a lot of factors unique to that area that might contribute to targeting issues. Terrain, weather, airspace complexity?

The Prelude is overrated if you ask me. Sure, it looks nice and the engineering is decent, but there are better options out there for the money. The interior hasn't aged well at all, and modern safety features are basically nonexistent. I'd look at a 350Z or G35 instead.
