Good question, David. From what I've read, the W124 actually had improved rust protection compared to earlier Mercedes models. The undercoating and paint quality were decent for the 1980s. Of course, it depends heavily on how the car was stored and maintained. A southern car would likely be in ...

From the photos I've seen of this particular example, the interior looks relatively clean and well-preserved. The seats show some wear but nothing catastrophic. The software update fee is what gets me. These are mandatory recalls that manufacturers are required to do by law, yet dealers still try to slip in charges for installation. It should be completely free, and frankly it should have been free from the factory.
