I'm skeptical about how reliable this system actually is compared to Earth-based GPS. Mars has different atmospheric conditions and magnetic properties. Has anyone seen the technical specifications? I'd like to know the accuracy margins before celebrating too much.

Looking at this more objectively, I think I was too quick to dismiss it. If the accuracy is within a few meters as david92 mentioned, that's definitely good enough for Mars rover operations. Still want to see more detailed specs though.
