The racing connection can't be ignored either. Chevrolet's small-block V8 became legendary because they offered it in everything from Corvettes to pickup trucks. That's brilliant brand building.

Great topic! The engine options were wild back then. I think it came down to cost—manufacturers could use the same platform and just swap engines. Tooling costs were spread across more sales since everything was modular.

Great find! The 260E is often overlooked compared to its larger-displacement siblings. I've seen some really well-maintained examples out there. The inline-six engine is bulletproof if you keep up with oil changes and valve adjustments. These cars will easily hit 300k miles with proper care.

One thing people underestimate is the safety aspect. The W124 had surprisingly good crash test results when it was new. Sure, it's not up to modern standards, but the steel construction and rigid body are actually quite protective compared to some cars from that era.

Don't forget about insurance costs too. High-performance Audis tend to have higher premiums. Combined with maintenance, ownership gets pricey quickly.

Re: 2027 Audi S5 - First Impressions and Specs Discussion
Just thought about the maintenance costs on these things. The 2027 S5 with all that new tech and performance hardware is going to be expensive to maintain. Factor that into your purchase decision!
